Lubricating firearms, select auto parts, and other machine parts with fluid lubricants can sometimes be inefficient or inadequate. Oil, for example, may not get evenly distributed across the surface of the metal part, leaving certain areas at risk of high friction. Fluid lubricants may not even work with some surfaces, as it can wear off quickly and you’ll have to apply another coating again. For environments with high or low temperatures where fluids may vaporize or freeze, dry film lubricants or solid lubricants are ideal to use. Gear Kote is a solid film lubricant, also known as a dry film lubricant. Gear Kote meets or exceeds military specifications noted in (Mil-L-4601 Dry Film Lube). Gear Kote will provide a thin/lubricating film that will reduce friction, prevent galling and seizing, aid in heat dissipation and will protect base metal from corrosion. Gear Kote has a charcoal gray look that will upon burnishing take on a sheen. The primary solid used for lubrication is Molybdenum Disulfide known to withstand pressures in excess of 400,000 PSI.
